Call For Nominations

CCTELA welcomes nominations for the 2012 Merron Chorny Award. The award recognizes those who have made a significant contribution to English Language Arts Education in Canada as teachers, co-ordinators, administrators or researchers.

Nominations for the Merron Chorny Award must be accompanied by a 200-300 word statement supporting the candidate, along with the names and addresses of three references willing to provide letters of support. The selection committee will contact referees during the final round of selection.

Please email all nominations by November 30, 2011 to: Tina Gordon at tgordon_10@yahoo.ca

CCTELA established the Allan Patenaude Presenter's Grant in May 2000 in honour of our distinguished educator and long time CCTELA Director from Quebec—Allan Patenaude. It may be awarded annually to an affiliate member who wishes to attend a conference in (any) CCTELA affiliated province to showcase innovative strategies for instruction and/or assessment in English Language Arts at any level Kindergarten through Post Secondary.

Criteria for Award

  • Presenter must be an affiliate member in good standing
  • Presenter must be willing to make a presentation at the national/affiliate conference as awarded
  • The presentation must be endorsed by the presenter's affiliate organization
Funding

Presenter will be awarded an amount of up to $2000.00 to assist with expenses incurred in presenting at the conference. Expenses covered will include:
  • Airfare (economy class public transportation; excursion/seat sale rates wherever possible)
  • Meals (claim actual cost or the per diem rate, whichever is the lesser - CCTELA meal per diem is $35.00/day)
  • Accommodations (clear personal expenses first and claim actual costs - single room rate - conference rate)
  • Conference Registration (may be claimed if the sponsoring organization does not cover this cost)
It is understood that if funding is granted, the applicant must submit to the President of CCTELA all receipts AND an article (based on the conference presentation) ready for publication in English Quarterly (the journal of CCTELA). Reimbursement will be made after receipt of both items.

Procedures

Applicants must submit the completed session proposal form to the local affiliate for endorsement. Upon acceptance, the affiliate will forward the application to the CCTELA executive for their review and approval by September 30. Provincial affiliate conference themes will dictate selection of a recipient. A successful applicant will be notified by the President of CCTELA on or by November 30.

Preference will be given to applicants whose proposals best match conference themes AND applicants who have not received CCTELA funding within the past 5 years from the date of last application.

Please refer to the proposal details on the application form.
